Wardriving: Tanzania
Published by Rob Flickenger October 1st, 2006 in WNDWThis just in from Fam Kremer:
When FADECO.org in North-West Tanzania looked for sustainability of their satellite internet connection they turned for help on the net. Making WiFi connections to schools and other organizations in their neighborhood was the goal. Several organizations where able to help, WSFII.org, WNDW.net, WirelessNederland.nl and many others could support this project with training, online help and materials. And results came.
Local ICT specialist John Kibuuka was probably the first one in Africa that got a copy of Wireless Networking in the Developing World and managed to set up an 8 km link to a school in just 7 months after that. John received training in Denmark and The Netherlands, where he picked up wardriving for a hobby. He did implement this in Africa in his own special way.

The WNDW book was really a great tool in nailing this connection. The european training and the apprenticeship with Peter Kremer in Netherlands gave me courage to travel back to Tanzania and setup this 8km link.
It still gladdens my heart recalling the memories!
