PillCam

Pill CamFinally, a camera for your esophagus.

The PillCamâ„¢ ESO video capsule is specifically designed to view the inner lining of the Esophagus. The capsule is equipped with miniature cameras on both ends and is about the size of a multi-vitamin, which can be swallowed easily.

Three sensor arrays are strategically placed on the patient’s chest and connected to a data recorder, worn on a belt around the waist.

I wonder how long before one of these shows up on a Justin.TV clone. Looks like esophagus.tv is already taken by a squatter…

I had the 1st pillcam ESO(esophagus) test ever performed at Indiana University today 4-23-2008. I had to not eat for 2 hours prior to the test. I still stopped food at midnight. The test was 8am. I went in to the testing room. Took off my shirt. The nurse placed 3 sticky electrodes to my chest and attached the leads to a recorder on my belt. I then laid on my right side and the PILL CAM ESO was activated. The LED lights were very bright and the pill was the size of a horse pill. It went down with a little water. I was instructed not to talk for the duration of the test. I was given 5ml of water every 3-5 minutes. After 15-20 minutes. I put my shirt on and left the electrodes attached and went to the waiting room. After 15-20 more minutes I was brought back in to the room and the electrodes were taken off and disconnected from the recorder. I was given a stool collector to make sure the pill cam comes out. I also injured my knee over the weekend and was instructed not to have an MRI until the pillcam comes out because it has a battery in the pill and the mri could cause internall damage if exposed to a magnetic field. Now from my perspective. I thought this test was great because it did NOT require anesthesia and I went back to work after it was finished. I think it’s great because #1 there was NO pain! #2. My whole day wasn’t shot because of anesthesia drugs. #3 This pillcam is definitely the way of the future. Why have a scope jammed down your throat or up your backside if you don’t have to? It also was less expensive and there were no side effects! If you have to have an endoscopy done then make sure you ask your doctor to refer for the PILL CAM. You will not regret it. Now if your test comes back positive then you may have to undergo the the old scope for biopsy but the pillcam should be the 1st choice of your doctor if they are just doing tests to try and rule stuff out. This was a piece of cake and I think that men would be more apt to be screened if it just involved swallowing a pillcam.
