Anticalc: a spite-vibe
Tell me if this story sounds familiar:
- You need an app to do a thing
- The built-in default app works but doesn’t quite fit the bill
- There’s a gorgeous app on the Mac store that’s $60 and looks ideal
- There’s a free app that isn’t pretty but does the job
- Limp along with the free app for years until they stop caring and it no longer ships for your architecture
- Grudgingly fork out $60. The app is perfect.
- Fast forward six months, need to reinstall the app. Turns out that version is no longer offered, and the new version is $70.
Welcome to the Mac ecosystem.
If this were Linux, I’d just code up a thing. Sadly Mac GUIs have never been high on my skills-to-learn list. I must be allergic to Xcode.
But it’s 2026. Humans don’t write software anymore. So why should they pay for it?
Here, have a free calculator. It doesn’t spy on you, contains no AI (though it was built with AI), and Just Works.
Time from idea to publishing: < 1 hour.
Enjoy.
